Jeep and the "Coolness Factor"

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 @ 11:25 PM

Today we got an email from a customer who just purchased a tire cover. She writes, "You guys rock!" (thank you Shannon)  "This is a surprise for my sister, who just bought her first Jeep -- a Liberty, so she's not quite as cool as me and my Wrangler, but I'll get her there, ha ha". Unfortunately for Jeep Liberty owners, it's pretty standard thinking that while they are "Jeep people", their Jeep is not a "cool" Jeep. Now, I didn't say that I believe that, but many do. So here is my question for anyone that has an opinion.

Give me YOUR list of the 5 Coolest Jeeps in order from the absolute coolest on down.  Any year, any model, any modification. Just post a reply to this blog. I'll give away a $20 All Things Jeep Gift Certificate to the list I think is the best. We'll play for a week and then I'll post a reply.

And if you remember reading "Go Dog Go" when you were a kid, didn't you just LOVE the page with the big dog party up in the tree? All the confetti and noise makers and cake and presents. It was my favorite page in my favorite book. Guess that's way I always have loved dogs. Because of that page!

What do Jeep owners and Shakespeare fans have in common?

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Wed, Jul 23, 2008 @ 11:51 PM
As a small business owner focused on a niche community (yes, us Jeep owners are a "niche" and my parents still can't get over that we've made a business out of this!), I love keeping in touch with other online niche business owners. Once of my favorite guys is Silas. I've never met him but his business is even crazier than ours. He sells tees and finger puppets to Shakespeare enthusiasts. (And you thought Jeep owners were a bit odd with their fanaticism?) Actually, Silas sells more than just tees and puppets, and his audience spans across fans of Shakespeare, Einstein, Da Vinci & more. But what do Jeep owners and Shakespeare fans have in common? He's running his own kick-a** contest right now and you can earn some cool stuff from Shakespeare's Den by entering HIS contest. And it's a lot more creative than our dog contest. Win them both and amaze all your friends. Anyhow, we were talking and I told Silas I'd mention his Summer Shakespearience Photo Contest in my blog. Heck, I figured there'd be at least 7 Jeep fans in the world that also love the theater. So you seven folks, please give him a shout. I know he'd appreciate it. (And if I send all 7 of you to his site, he might even hook me up with my favorite Genius Parking Only sign. I'd put it right in front of my parking space at work.)

It's over Friday night, July 18th. If you are on vacation and you miss it - we are sorry. Personally, I'd rather take a vacation so please don't be sad. You are on vacation!!! And don't worry, we'll do it again sometime soon.

By the way, here's the scoop on The Dog Days of Summer origin. Taken directly from Wikipedia (my favorite souce of info.)

The phrase Dog Days or "the dog days of summer", refers to the hottest, most sultry days of summer. They are a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere that usually falls between early July and early September but the actual dates vary greatly from region to region, depending on latitude and climate. Dog Days can also define a time period or event that is very hot or stagnant, or marked by dull lack of progress.

The term "Dog Days" was used by the Greeks (see, e.g., Aristotle's Physics, 199a2), as well as the ancient Romans (who called these days caniculares dies (days of the dogs)) after Sirius (the "Dog Star"), the brightest star in the heavens besides the Sun.

Popularly believed to be an evil time "when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing to man burning fevers, hysterics, and phrensies" - Brady's Clavis Calendarium, 1813.

The Dog Days originally were the days when Sirius, the Dog Star, rose just before or at the same time as sunrise (heliacal rising), which is no longer true owing to precession of the equinoxes. The ancients sacrificed a brown dog at the beginning of the Dog Days to appease the rage of Sirius, believing that that star was the cause of the hot, sultry weather.

Stay cool.  Jean

Top Jeep Dog Contest Begins Now!

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 @ 04:45 PM

Our Jeep Dog Days of Summer Contest begins today.

We want to see YOUR Jeep Dog!

Ok, here's the deal. Simple enough. Send us a photo (just one or two per pooch, please) of your Jeep dog. How will we know your pooch is a real Jeep dog? Why, he'll be riding in the CJ, or running through a rock garden, or belly deep in a mud puddle, of course. Or, she'll be chomping a Jeep chew toy, or wearing a bright red Jeep collar. Or maybe your best friend will be wearing a Jeep t-shirt (and looking cool in it.) One thing is for sure, though, your dog won't be wearing any of those sissy pink tutus that those poor NYC dogs have to wear when they go out to the park. We mean, even if your dog is a little one, they can still be a real Jeep dog.

Send us some photos!

So get those cameras out and start snapping some photos. Send them to sales @ allthingsjeep.com and maybe...

YOUR dog can be crowned TOP JEEP DOG OF 2008, complete with a Jeep Toys Gift Basket Grand Prize and a $50 Gift Certificate for you!

We'll even have a few runner up (in case the winning pooch can't fulfill their doggy duties as reigning top dog).

You'll find all the info you need on our Jeep Dogs Days of Summer page here:

http://www.allthingsjeep.com/jeep-dogs-contest.html

May the best pooch win.

Jeep. It's in the genes.

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 @ 04:40 PM

I came across this video today. I have no idea if the date on it is correct. I have no idea who this kid is. But I will bet that mom or dad owns a Jeep and it was in his genes. It could not be helped. It's too late.

If this is you (or you know who it is), I want an update. How many Jeeps in the family. What are you wrenching these days? Is the red Power Wheels still in the garage?

Kids with Jeep Genes

I tried to embed this darn video but it wouldn't work so you'll have to click on the link to see the video but it will make you smile. Enjoy.

There's nothing like it

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Sat, Jul 12, 2008 @ 11:50 PM

Thank God, the 100% humidity has left us for a few days, the sun is shining and the temp is about 80 degrees. The top is off my Jeep and truly, there is nothing else like it - driving around in the Jeep with the sun shining, the wind in your hair and the tunes playing. I used every excuse I could today to take a ride. First, I took my daughter to an eye doctor appointment and back. Then I went to the supermarket for milk. Then I headed out to get a haircut. Then we decided to go out for dinner for Mexican. And finally, we went out to pick up a friend and bring her over here. And honestly, while we have some hardcore off-roaders here at the office, I will admit that mine is daily driver, hasn't seen anything off-road more than a dirt path and a cow pasture, and it's STILL fun.

Yes, the gas prices are awful. But the pleasure I get from driving this Jeep makes it worthwhile. At last for now. Are you still having fun in your Jeep or have the gas prices put a dent in the fun?

Jeep Dog Days of Summer

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Tue, Jul 08, 2008 @ 05:45 PM

It is hot in here. It is so freakin' hot. Around 90 and really humid. Ugh. We don't have air conditioning in the warehouse YET, but we are getting it very soon and soon everyone will be smiling again.

Meanwhile, we will be launching a new contest to honor the heat and honor our pals, our furry friends, our Jeep dogs.

More details to follow but you may want to dust off any awesome photos of your dog in your Jeep, and if you don't have those, get those cameras ready.

Jeep Bicycles and Tricycles Update

Posted by Jean Wnuk on Wed, Jul 02, 2008 @ 10:52 AM
Well, I just want to update everyone on the Jeep bike line. The newly licensed manufacturer for the Jeep bike line is diligently working on this line and recreational cyclists will be pleased with the results. However, they will not be available until the September-October 2008 timeframe. Sorry. So if you need a new bike for the summer, you'll have to pick up something else. (I've seen the pictures of the new line and the trikes are darn cute!)
